Auto+ Programme: grants of up to 4,500 euros towards the purchase of electric vehicles

Electric mobility continues to advance, and the new Auto+ Programme has been launched to make it easier to buy electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

This programme replaces the MOVES III Scheme and offers grants of up to 4,500 euros for passenger cars, with particular incentives for vehicles that are more electric, more economical and manufactured in Europe.

Below, we explain how it works, which vehicles are eligible and what factors determine the amount of the grant.

Auto+ 2026 Programme

The Council of Ministers has approved the new Auto+ Programme, which will be implemented by means of a decree-law and published shortly in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

Applications may be submitted online once the process is available. As was the case with the MOVES III Plan, the purchaser must first pay the full price of the vehicle and then apply for the grant.

The maximum subsidies provided for are:

• Up to 4,500 euros for passenger cars.
• Up to 5,000 euros for vans and light goods vehicles.
• Up to 1,500 euros for quadricycles.
• Up to 1,100 euros for motorcycles.

The amounts may vary for the self-employed and businesses with up to ten employees.

In addition, retailers must apply an additional discount of at least €1,000 on the sale price.

Which vehicles are eligible for the grants?

To qualify for the Auto+ Programme, vehicles must have an environmental sticker and meet the established price limits.

For passenger cars, the maximum price is 45,000 euros. For motorbikes, the limit is 10,000 euros.

The subsidy will apply retrospectively to purchases made from 1 January 2026.

Second-hand vehicles may also be included, provided their registration date is after 1 January 2025.

How is the amount calculated?

The allocation of the grants will be based on the EEE criteria:

• Electric.
• Economic.
• European.

Pure electric vehicles will receive 50 per cent of the grant, whilst range-extended vehicles and plug-in hybrids will receive 25 per cent.

Passenger cars costing less than €35,000 may qualify for an additional 25 per cent. If their price is over €35,000 but does not exceed the maximum limit, the additional percentage will be 15 per cent.

Vehicles assembled in the European Union may qualify for a further 15 per cent. If the battery is also manufactured in Europe, a further 10 per cent may be added.

Thus, a fully electric passenger car priced at under 35,000 euros and manufactured in Europe could qualify for 100 per cent of the planned subsidy.
